Burn Awareness Week
is a coast-to-coast campaign in Canada and the USA dedicated
to inform the general public of the seriousness of the burn
problem. It is meant to promote the publics awareness to the
availability of local Burn Care Facilities in your community,
provide information and materials on a variety of subjects
relating to burn awareness, as well as raising awareness of
the burn problem.
Burn Awareness Week
is the first full week of February and begins a year-round
campaign.
Every year the Firefighters
Burn Fund Victoria, BC sponsors a Poster Contest within the
school districts of Greater Victoria, grades 4-6.
Our second activity
is aimed at the young families with newborns. During the first
week of February, "Baby Bags" are given to all those
babies within Victoria born during the week.
The bags include:
- Smoke detector
- Carbon monoxide detector
- Oven door lock
- Buddy bathe thermometer
- Two-touch outlet covers
- Electrical cord holder
- Children's burn prevention story "No Dragons for
Tea".
Many helpful burn prevention
pamphlets are also included in the bag. The bags are distributed
with the help of our community Welcome Wagon.
