2004 Burn Awareness
Week Poster Contest

This was the 14th year for the Burn Fund Poster Contest.

The contest was open to all schools in the Greater Victoria area for grades 4-6.


 2004 Poster Contest Winners

The theme for this year's Burn Prevention Poster Contest was "Fireworks & Candle Safety".

The winners were presented with a trophy, a gift certificate for $150.00 for Toys R Us, gift certificates for Villages Pizza and Threesixty Boardshop on Sunday, February 1st at the Burn Fund Office / Burn House.

Their teachers were presented with cheques for their schools:

  • Grade 4 - Mrs. Woodley, Monterey Elementary - $1000.00
  • Grade 5 - Mrs. Livernoche, Ecole Victor-Brodeur - $1000.00
  • Grade 6 - Mrs. Fiddick, Wishart School - $1000.00
  • Best Overall "Ken Dobson Memorial Award" - Mrs. Fiddick, Wishart School - $1500.00

Thank you to everyone who participated in our contest and congratulations to the winners.

The Winners were:

  • Grade 4 winners - Elsa MacDonald and Natalie Hume
  • Grade 5 winners - Kluane Buser-Rivet and Celine Kobenter
  • Grade 6 winner - Sarah Hunter
  • Best Overall "Ken Dobson Memorial Award" - Jesse Briche

 2003 Poster Contest Winners

The theme for 2003's poster contest was "Cooking Safety". The winners were presented with a trophy and a scooter on Sunday, February 2nd at the Burn Fund office / Burn House. The Prizes for this year were $1000.00 for each grade level and $1500.00 for the overall winner. The cash prizes are for the school's activity fund.

The Winners were:

  • Grade 4 winner - Chelsea Astleford, Torquay Elementary
  • Grade 5 winner - Crystal King, Lampson Street School
  • Grade 6 winner - Aleen Sokema, Millstream Elementary
  • Best Overall "Ken Dobson Memorial Award" - Sarah Stevenson, Wishart School

 2002 Poster Contest Winners

The Winners of the 2002 Poster Contest were awarded their trophies and scooters on February 10, 2002 at the Burn Fund office. Their teachers were presented with their cash awards for their schools — $1,000.00 for each grade and $1,500.00 for the best overall.

The Winners were:

  • Grade 4 winner - Rebecca Launder, Ruth King Elementary
  • Grade 5 winner - Ashley Page, View Royal Elementary
  • Grade 6 winner - Lisa Sokema, Millstream School
  • Best Overall "Ken Dobson Memorial Award" - Shelby Gerrath, Wishart School

2001 Poster Contest Winners

The theme for 2001 was "Dangers of Chemicals and Flammable Liquids". The winners were presented with their trophies, Razor Scooters, and cheques on Sunday, February 11, 2001 at the Firefighters Burn Fund Office/Burn House. The winners of each grade were presented with $750.00 for their school, and the Ken Dobson Memorial Award was $1,500.00 for the school of it's winner.

The Winners were:

  • Grade 4 winner - Laura Dykeman, Sidney Elementary
  • Grade 5 winner - Rebecca Williams, Saanich Elementary
  • Grade 6 winner - Kristal Kordich-Crandall, Wishart Elementary
  • Grade 6 winner - Benoit Dupuis, Ecole Brodeur
